About DrawGrid
A practical drawing grid maker for artists.
DrawGrid is a free browser-based tool for adding customizable drawing grids to reference images. It was created to help artists study proportion, placement, composition, and visual relationships without installing complicated image-editing software.
What DrawGrid does
The grid method divides a reference image and drawing surface into matching sections. Instead of copying an entire image at once, an artist can compare one smaller area at a time. DrawGrid lets visitors adjust rows, columns, line color, width, opacity, and labels, then export a gridded reference or a blank practice sheet.
The main editor does not require an account. Images selected in the editor are designed to be processed locally in the visitor's browser rather than intentionally uploaded to DrawGrid's servers.
Why DrawGrid exists
Drawing accurately is not only a matter of hand control. Artists also need to compare height and width, identify major landmarks, notice negative spaces, and correct large shapes before adding small details. A grid provides a temporary measuring system that makes those relationships easier to see.
DrawGrid is intended as a learning aid, not a shortcut that replaces observation. The goal is to help artists build stronger visual judgment and gradually rely less on construction guides as their skills improve.
How the teaching material is made
DrawGrid is an independently developed tool for studying proportion and composition. The advanced lessons use original SVG diagrams made in code, with shared coordinates for references, overlays and three-value demonstrations. Other lessons use existing illustrative references with manually placed analytical overlays. A demonstration is a teaching aid, not a claimed teacher drawing or a user result.
DrawGrid is independently operated. Advertising may help support hosting and continued development, but advertisements do not determine the conclusions or instructions in our educational content.
